Getting ready to go on vacation can be a stressful time, with shopping, packing and everything you need for an enjoyable vacation. A baggage handler shares the common items you “shouldn’t” put in your luggage.
In the midst of a last-minute packing frenzy, it can be easy to accidentally toss items into your luggage, even those that could cause you problems along the way, writes Express.
While there are obvious things to leave at home, like lithium batteries and sharp objects, there are other less obvious items that passengers should think about before their flight.
Experts in their field, baggage handlers say that a number of everyday objects can cause big problems when handling luggage. Packing your own food and drinks may seem like a money-saving option, but it may be better to buy them when you get there.
With this in mind, one of these baggage handlers posted on Reddit, imploring passengers not to pack food in their checked bags.
“They rot, break or leak, open. It smells, especially alcohol. Then I smell all day after picking up a bag that leaked”said a baggage handler.
According to the quoted source, baggage handlers regularly find items in suitcases that shouldn’t be there.
Although passengers are allowed to carry food in their checked baggage, according to the Gov.uk website, most countries have strict rules on entry.
If you feel the need to take meat, dairy, fish and animal products, as well as fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds into other countries, expect to face entry restrictions.
Anyone hoping to kick off their holiday with some very strong spirits should be aware that any amount of alcohol is prohibited in both checked and carry-on luggage. So, it’s best to leave the hard drinks at home!
