What brought the first week of presidential campaign. An analyst: “The candidates are extraordinarily fragile”

The first week of election campaign has brought large movements on the political scene, with direct effects on the poll on May 4. The analysts point out that for the Tour II there is a close fight between five candidates.

“We are three weeks before the first round of the presidential elections. Prior to November 10, Georgescu was as non -existent in the public debate and the campaign that started just two weeks before propelled in the first place in the elections. (…) Nothing is sure. At the moment, the candidates are extraordinarily fragile. points out the political scientist Cristian Pîrvulescu for “Adevărul”.

The same opinion is also the political scientist George Jiglău, who stresses that, at present, there are five candidates with the second round: “Crin Antonescu, Victor Ponta, Nicuşor Dan, George Simion and Elena Lasconi”, but Ponta and Lasconi at the moment are in the most difficult situation ”.

Elena Lasconi is affected by the fact that she was abandoned by the party she runs, the leaders of the formation leaving her without funds in full campaign to support Nicușor Dan, a former member and founder of the USR. However, the head of the USR claims that it will recover everything it needs to continue the presidential race.

In an unfavorable situation is Victor Ponta, who recently stated that a “Given order over the Romanian structures” To be closed the dam from the Iron Gates, in 2014, which led to the flooding of some Romanian villages, this being, moreover, the reason why it would have received the citizenship of Serbia.

Elena Lasconi, abandoned by the party

In this context, Cristian Pârvulescu points out that, „ÎIn principle, Nicușor Dan, in the case of Lasconi, and Crin Antonescu, in the case of Ponta, seem to be favored, seem to win extra points. (…) Now, Lasconi is clearly disadvantaged by the fact that his own party has left it, but remains a candidate. (…) The fact that a candidate is down, even very low, does not mean that he cannot recover in a campaign like the one we are in”.

Some voters of Elena Lasconi could go to the Coalition candidate, Crin Antonescu, to revolt against the actions of the party, or to the gold candidate, George Simion, as a gesture against the system, explains George Jiglău.

“” What happens to Mrs. Lasconi, of course, she is in favor of Nicuşor Dan. I would say that not 100%, that is, always when this kind of situations arise in which we would expect, say, that the votes are moved to another candidate, I always say that not 100%. It can reach a very small difference and a few extra percentages can make the difference between entering or not in a two tour.”, George Jiglău pointed out.

Victor Ponta, disadvantaged by his own statements

However, the independent candidate Victor Ponta will be disadvantaged by his own statements, points out Cristian Pîrvulescu, which directly benefits Crin Antonescu: “For Antonescu it is very important to receive the actual support of the PSD and PNL organizations. If he receives this support he is a candidate for round II, if not, if the PDL in the party (no – PNL) have reluctance, then it will be clearly deposited. At the moment I can consider that the organizations in Transylvania, as they have acted in the case of Mr. Ciuca, will not be overly mobilized in favor of Mr. Antonescu. But I expect that after the Ponta scandal, the PSD organizations that were willing to vote on Ponta to be much more careful in how they will act. ”

“Actions like this can continue to happen, especially since these candidates are not prominent, it is not one that will be imposed from a distance in relation to the others. They have advantages and disadvantages,” Cristian Pîrvulescu also points out.

Nicușor Dan, targeted by controversies on ties with Matei Păun

The last week had in the foreground and Nicușor Dan, an independent candidate in the presidential race. Elena Lasconi, abandoned by the party in her favor, can also benefit from the controversies around the mayor regarding the connection she has with Matei Păun, a businessman with business links in Belarus and the Russian Federation. The mayor of the capital gave contradictory statements about the meetings he would have with him.

Nicușor Dan said that he was seen in the last 4 years three times with Matei Păun, but later photos of at least three meetings from February until now. The mayor of the capital argued that the pictures that surprise him with Matei Paun, recently published in the media, were made in the public space, in sight, and that it would not be something to hide.
