Invited to the “Povești de Film, cu Mara Bănică” podcast, Paul Surugiu, known by the stage name Fuego, spoke about his deep passion for his job and the sacrifices he makes for the stage.
The artist confessed that over the years he has invested a lot in the costumes he wears in his performances
“Appearance is very important for an artist. I work with the biggest fashion designers. I must be spectacular! I have over 500 stage costumes at home, half of them I can’t wear anymore, because, in years, I have fulfilled myself. I abolished the swimming pool in the house etcI made her a dressing room”, a said Fuego, quoted by Click!.
He confesses that the financial forum for these purchases was not easy, because the amounts left after the shows are not exorbitant, despite the opinion of many, because he has to pay a team of sometimes more than 100 people, and for this he sometimes has to he himself comes with money from home.
“I also have bank installments, I also have debts, I also have installments on the car, just like any other person. I’m just like you”, Paul Surugiu also said.
Fuego: I paid for everything, I wouldn’t give it for anything
He never thought of parting with the costumes he went on stage with, even if he no longer wears many of them.
“I want it to become a permanent exhibition. This at 70 years old, when I will have my foundation and I will also have a museum with all my creations, with all the awards, with all the gold records and with all the popular costumes that I have collected in 30 years, with my painting collection. I have nowhere to put anything. They are costumes made by Doina Levintza, handmade, stage made. The designer of the Royal House, Alexandru Ciucu, he alone has made me 30 stage costumes so far, Maria Miu, one of the greatest creators and stage designers in Romania, has made dozens of costumes for me as well. I paid absolutely all of them, I wouldn’t give them for anything in the world”, he also said Fuego.
