Romania has the youngest grandmother, a 23-year-old woman, according to the president of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAS), Dr. Valeria Herdea. During a press conference organized in Târgu Mureș, the doctor specified that considering this situation, among the provisions of the new framework contract, which entered into force on July 1, there are also a series of chapters related to teenagers.

“Among the provisions that I am announcing in this new contract, in this extension, because it is an extension of the contract from 01.07.2023, we also have provisions that concern the teenager. We can advise the teenager against sexually transmitted diseases, against the risk of alcohol addiction, drug addiction, gambling addiction, video game addiction (…). Unfortunately, we have girls who are pregnant at the age of 12, at the age of 14 they have two children. We are the country that has the youngest grandmother, at 23 years old. It is shocking to see what our children are subjected to! And then, the refusal to discuss the health of these little girls and these children, who start their sexual life very early, still remains under the question mark, still remains under the sign of social stigma“, stated Valeria Herdea, according to Agerpres.
In the same vein, the CNAS president urged parents and grandparents to talk to young people, listen to them and make them say what they think freely.
“Talk to them because we, who may have been raised differently, need to lean towards them. This is what I am asking you most: Listen to the young people! (…) Let’s try to prevent them and prevent illnesses. Let’s face it, there are some problems. I can’t imagine the 21st century without talking to your kids. Sexuality is not a shame, but it is a shame not to talk about dental health, not to talk about body health, not to talk about what is physiologically normal in our body. It is normal to have medical culture in schools and I maintain my firm opinion. It is mandatory to have medical education in schools. It is mandatory to speak up and undertake to be an example for our children”Valeria Herdea also declared.
“Romania, unfortunately, is still an endemic country for hepatitis B and C”
According to Valeria Herdea, this new framework contract includes many provisions aimed at teenagers and young people, such as HPV vaccination (compensated with 50%).
“Romania, unfortunately, is still an endemic country for hepatitis B and C. There is the possibility of detecting the hepatitis B and C virus, and for pregnant women access to HIV testing. There are some things that apparently seem simple, but know that in reality they are extremely complex, because in a country where there is still infection with hepatitis B and C virus, it means that there is still a low vaccination rate. In our country, there has been vaccination against hepatitis B virus infection since 1995. And yet we still face it. Unfortunately, the decrease in vaccination coverage in recent years (…) is seeing its fruits today”the president of CNAS sent.
We remind you that CNAS announced that from July 1, uninsured people will benefit from various services. It is desired to detect serious diseases, such as cancer, hepatitis B and C, and HIV/AIDS in pregnant women.
