Voters who are in their home town on the day of the presidential election are required to vote in the ward where they are warded, according to the permanent lists, according to a recent decision of the Central Electoral Bureau for the 2024 presidential election.

If the voters are not in their place of residence, they have the opportunity to vote at any polling station, using the additional lists.

Those who are abroad on voting day can vote at any available polling station.

According to the decision, the voter who, on the day of voting, is in the administrative-territorial unit where he established his domicile or residence, votes only at the polling station where he is registered in the permanent electoral list. At the same time, the voter with domicile or residence in Bucharest cannot exercise his right to vote at a polling station located in another sector of Bucharest than the one where he has his domicile or residence, but he can exercise his right to vote at any polling station located in another county, to be entered in the additional electoral list”transmitted, on Thursday, BEC, in a press release.

Additional vote lists for the 2024 presidential election

According to the mentioned document, if a voter is on the day of the vote in a different administrative-territorial unit than the one where he has his domicile or residence, he can vote at any polling station, using an additional list.

“Also, the voter with reduced mobility can vote at any polling station that ensures his access to vote, and will be registered in the additional electoral list, if he is not registered in the permanent electoral list of the respective voting station. At the same time, the voter abroad can vote at any polling station organized outside the country.”, it is shown in the cited document.

According to the decision, if at 21:00 the president of the electoral office notices that there are people in or outside the polling station waiting to vote, he will decide to extend the voting schedule until 23:59 at the latest.

What are additional lists?

Additional listings are an exception to the rule. On the day of the elections, the additional list from each polling station includes:

at the polling stations in the country

  • voters who show up to vote and prove with their identity document that they reside within the territorial radius of the respective polling station, but were omitted from the permanent electoral list or from the copy of it existing at the polling station;
  • Romanian voters or Community voters who are not in the place of residence – who are in any other place apart from the place of residence. In the Municipality of Bucharest, you cannot vote in another sector, as the sectors are considered subdivisions and not distinct localities.
  • members of the electoral office of the polling station and the SIMPV operator
  • the persons in charge of maintaining order, if they are not registered on the permanent list for the department where they work
  • voters who vote with a mobile ballot box

at polling stations abroad

  • national voters who are abroad and vote at any polling station organized abroad

We remind you that the presidential elections will be held in two rounds: on November 24th there will be the first round, and on December 8th there will be the second round of the presidential elections.
