For many Romanians, the holiday does not end with the New Year’s fireworks. On the contrary, the month of January becomes the ideal time for a getaway to sunny destinations, away from the crowds and high prices of the holiday season.
Romanians who plan their trips at the beginning of the year in advance end up paying even a third less for tourist packages, according to Știrilor Pro Tv.
In addition, they avoid the massive flow of tourists during peak periods and enjoy better services in exotic resorts.
Vacation in the Philippines, a January tradition for some
Vlad Morar, artist, made a habit of going on vacation only after the holidays. This year he chose the Philippines again, a destination he explores on his own.
“I’m in Manila and about to fly to Cebu. Each island has its own culture, traditions and culinary specialties. I travel with stopovers so I can make my connections“, he told the cited source.
Lower prices, better service
Tourism specialists say that the January-March period is preferred by those who want an exotic experience at low costs, given that the rates drop by at least 30% compared to December, both for transportation and accommodation.
“We’re talking substantial discounts on plane, train, coach or cruise tickets, but also on hotels and meal packages. Occupancy is lower, which means less crowding and better service”explains Ciprian Enea, the tourism consultant.
Early bookings make the difference
To make sure they get the best deals, many tourists book their vacations as early as summer.
“In August, a ticket to destinations such as Thailand or Mexico can cost several hundred euros. If we wait until October or November, the price can double. Tickets are paid for when booking, but accommodation can be paid even a month before departure.” says agency manager Cristina Vascan.

January, also the perfect month for escapades in Europe
Beyond exotic destinations, the beginning of the year is also the ideal time to buy plane tickets to major European cities. Rates can be up to 90% lower than the average of the year, according to ProTV News.
Low-cost flights to destinations such as Paris or Rome start from around 31 euros round trip, those to Milan from 26 euros, and tickets to London from 33-34 euros. Brussels remains one of the most affordable destinations when it comes to flights, with prices between 25 and 27 euros, depending on the period chosen.
