Why does the phone freeze when charging? The most common reasons and what solutions we have at hand

It is natural for smartphones to heat up when they are used heavily or charged quickly. The same cannot be said when the phone actually gets cold while charging. Most likely) in this case it is a problem. But there are remedies.

Many smartphone users have noticed that their mobile devices overheat in some cases. In some situations, digital technology specialists say, this is perfectly justified, especially with high-performance phones frequently used as game consoles. The same cannot be said about a phone that is left charging and ends up burning so hard that we can’t touch or hold it. At that point question marks should appear.

Why does the phone freeze when charging? There are several reasons, say the same specialists, but also solutions available to anyone.

Why does the phone burn when charging?

The answer is simple, but first of all, we need to differentiate between a phone that heats up naturally, normally, and one that raises questions. For example, it is normal for the phone to heat up when you use fast charging (20W, 45W, 65W or more), use it while charging (gaming, video streaming, GPS navigation), the ambient temperature is high (above about 30–35 °C), or the battery is almost empty and starts charging.

But cause for concern may arise when the phone becomes so hot that it is hard to hold, temperature warning messages appear, charging stops by itself, or it overheats every time, even when not in use.

Among the common causes of abnormal overheating of the phone can be the battery, especially if the very high temperature occurs at the back of the device, especially if the battery is worn or about to fail. If the overheating occurs at the bottom of the phone, either the charging port or the charger may be to blame. The latter may be unsuitable for the phone model, poor quality or defective. If the phone is burning at the top, then the speaker could be to blame.

How you can protect your device

To start with and to make matters worse, if the back of the phone is cold and charging is poor, it is clear that the battery is problematic. In many cases, it must be replaced at an authorized service center.

However, there are also situations that we can easily solve at home. For example, the solution might just be to replace the cable or charger altogether. A faulty or poor-quality charger or cable can overheat the phone and over time damage it. Therefore, if we want a longer life for the phone, we must not be stingy and we must use an original charger or one of very good quality, certified.

Another important aspect noted by specialists is the use of the phone while charging. The ideal is to let it charge, just so it doesn’t overheat and fail. Also, don’t leave your phone charging overnight, especially on thick textiles like blankets, quilts or carpets.

Don’t forget to close all apps, but also Bluetooth or mobile data (if you don’t need them). It is important to clean the phone, i.e. not to overload its memory.

Charge the phone in a cool and well-ventilated place and do not expose it to the sun or other heat sources. You should also check if the case is not a problem or if you have applications that are “forging” the processor in the background.

If even in these conditions the phone overheats strongly, then it must be taken to a service.
