As Dr Jacqui McIntosh explained in her interview with the Mirror, it is advisable that when staying at a hotel you bring your own hair dryer as “hotel hair dryers are often overlooked when it comes to cleanliness in the rooms hotel. These hair dryers are dirtier than you might think.”

Jacqui McIntosh, who is a trichologist, meaning a specialist who focuses on trichology, the study of hair and scalp diseases or problems and their treatments, says there is often more bacteria in hair dryers in hotel rooms and that more many studies carried out in dozens of hotels in the UK and Europe.

“And since hair dryers in hotel rooms are constantly left uncleaned, they quickly become a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria and germs. And if you use a hair dryer full of bacteria and germs, you risk facing various health problems that can affect your hair beauty”adds Jacqui McIntosh.

The respected specialist from the UK also described how bacteria from hotel hair dryers can damage the hair and scalp.

“When these pesky microorganisms find their way onto your hair and scalp, they can cause infection and irritation, damage
hair follicles and can also slow down healthy hair growth”says trichologist Jacqui McIntosh.

The British expert also warns that dirty hair dryers in hotel rooms can have other risks: “If a dirty and unmaintained dryer does not work well, this aspect can lead to overheating and implicitly the risk of burning your scalp. Uncleaned and dirty hair dryers are real time bombs that can lead to major hair and scalp problems. So the best thing in my opinion is to take your personal hair dryer in your luggage when you stay at a hotel”.
