185 years since the birth of King Carol I of Romania

This year, on the 185th anniversary of his birth, we remember the emblematic figure of the King of Romania, Carol I. Known for his strong leadership and devotion to his country, Carol I left a lasting mark on Romania’s history .

For over four decades, he represented a symbol of the dignity, stability and prosperity of the Romanian nation.

King Charles I was born on April 20, 1839 in Germany and had a life full of remarkable events and achievements. Raised in Prussia, he was educated in the spirit of monarchical ideals and patriotism. From an early age, Carol I showed a special interest in Romania and its history.

One of the main objectives of the reign of Carol I was the modernization and westernization of Romania. His reign was characterized by the implementation of significant political, economic and social reforms. The foreign prince took responsibility for this duty and dedicated his entire life to the Romanian people. His struggle for progress transformed Romania into a modern and independent state. He promoted modern legislation and established efficient state institutions. He helped strengthen the judiciary and made significant improvements in health and social care. Carol I was a devoted promoter of the rights and freedoms of Romanian citizens. In addition to his domestic contributions, Charles I also had an important role in the European political landscape. He made strategic alliances and strengthened Romania’s position on the international scene. During the War of Independence of 1877-1878, King Charles I and the Romanian army played a crucial role in gaining independence from Ottoman rule.
