The fabulous world of the circus opens its doors on the stage of the “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theatre, in a new exceptional premiere: the delightful operetta THE CIRCUS PRINCESS by Emmerich Kálmán will enrich the repertoire of the “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theater, from this season.
The first performances will take place on June 28, 29 and 30, 2024. The performance will be directed by BEATRICE RANCEA, the costumes by DOINA LEVINTZA, the set by VLADIMIR TURTURICA and the choreography by DRAGOȘ ROțU and JOHANNA BODOR.
Radu Petrovici, interim manager elaborates: “We chose to go out on the ramp with this reference title by Kálmán, because we believe in the distinguished charm of the classic, which the public seeks and appreciates. It will be a show of extraordinary grandeur and extraordinary visual richness. From the costumes to the choreographic moments, the viewer will be captivated by the fascinating world of the circus, with its stories, intrigues and challenges. The gates of this magical universe will open for 3 hours at each performance in which this classic title will come to life on our stage.”
The costumes created by Doina Levintza will give the characters elegance and distinction, shaping the atmosphere of the show and defining the sartorial sophistication of the late 19th century.
ABOUT THE PRINCESS OF THE CIRCUS
The Circus Princess (original German title: “Die Zirkusprinzessin”) is an operetta in three acts composed by Emmerich Kálmán to a libretto written by Julius Brammer and Alfred Grünwald, which premiered on March 26, 1926 at the Theater an der Wien from Vienna.
The action of the operetta revolves around the mysterious character “Mister X”, whose true identity no one knows, he always wears a mask. In reality, he is Prince Fedja Palinski who was banished and disinherited by his uncle because he fell in love with his future wife, Princess Fedora, a beautiful young Parisian. After Fedora Palinska became a widow, she left for Paris, and Prince Fedja Palinski entered the world of the circus, becoming the mysterious Mister X and also the main attraction of the shows.
