Andrei Muraru responded, on Digi24, to the accusations made by Sorin Grindeanu against him, namely that he is “gloating” in the USA “in 47 rooms” and “bathing in champagne”. Romania’s ambassador to Washington says that if a Romanian state official makes such an accusation, then he must also come with evidence. “Thousands of Romanians have crossed the threshold of this house, but I have not seen Romanians cross the threshold of Mr. Grindeanu’s work residence”, pointed out Andrei Muraru.
“Mr. Grindeanu was asked about an event and he answered talking about me. The public can judge for themselves whether he thus received a satisfactory explanation or not,” said the diplomat.
“As far as I am concerned… regarding the public expenses that the embassy uses, I have always answered very directly and bluntly, with verifiable figures. But if a state dignitary makes such an accusation, it must also be supported by evidence. What I can tell you is that I fully assume the activity of the ambassador and all the initiatives that I have had in the last five and a half years since I have been here, as Mr. Grindeanu had to answer as directly to the questions and issues for which he is approached by the press”, pointed out Andrei Muraru.
“Thousands of Romanians have crossed the threshold of this house”
“I can tell you that this residence has always been open to Romanians, thousands of Romanians have crossed the threshold of this house and, tonight, the Romanian press, American press, American elites are invited to an event that celebrates this celebration of American democracy which is today’s election. And I think it is a matter of common sense and respect. I have not seen Romanians cross the threshold of Mr. Grindeanu’s work residence,” emphasized the Romanian ambassador in Washington.
