The liberals are plotting a “withdrawal” of Ciucă from the leadership of the PNL and from the race for the presidency, according to some sources.
Nicolae Ciucă, PNL president
Although the PNL got a good score in the local and European parliamentary elections, there is a major dissatisfaction in the ranks of the liberals, especially since some leaders say that they were helped by the pesedists to achieve this score.
According to journalists from Gândul, heads are being cut off in the party, and the most famous name is that of the head of the PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, who by all calculations is below the party’s score.
He would not have the necessary strength to enter the second round of the presidential elections, a fact for which the liberals want to turn to another name.
“There is a major risk that Nicolae Ciucă will pull the party down strongly in the parliamentary elections, if it does not enter the 2nd round. This would make the PNL no longer count in the legislative future. We remind you that, according to the new calendar, the parliamentary elections are organized the following Sunday after the first presidential round. So, the next congress, which should have met by the middle of July, according to the words of the president Ciucă (no – statement made before the calendar change for parliamentary and presidential elections), should elect a new president and then appoint the candidate for Cotroceni. According to political sources, a name circulated to replace Nicolae Ciucă is Eduard Hellvig, a liberal with seniority and positions in the PNL, before becoming director of the Romanian Intelligence Service”sources say Gândul
