Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared on Saturday that the priority, during this period, is to save human lives in the areas heavily affected by floods in Galati and Vaslui counties, he also announced that two temporary camps will be set up for the victims.
Prime Minister Ciolacu, accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Angel Tîlvăr, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, the Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, and the head of the DSU, Raed Arafat, went on Saturday afternoon to the Galaţi town of Slobozia Conachi to assess the effects on the spot the strong floods of the last 24 hours.
The Head of the Executive spoke with the locals of Slobozia Conachi, with the representatives of the intervention forces on the spot and visited several houses affected by the floods.
“I would like to convey my condolences to the four families for the four loss of human lives. From the early hours of the morning I had a communication with Mr. Interior Minister and Mr. Raed Arafat. Today we communicated with each mayor of the five localities, remaining to travel throughout the area. We created a rapid crisis cell at the Galati County Council. (…) The priority, as is normal, is saving human lives. At this point, we have all the necessary logistics to intervene quickly. We also came with the helicopters from Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Defense is prepared for any intervention in the affected areas. Where it cannot be reached, the Ministry of Defense gets involved directly“, declared Marcel Ciolacu.
As additional measures, the prime minister announced that the Interministerial Committee for Emergency Situations is considering the granting of aid to the affected population.
“At this moment we have decided on deployment and everything that means blankets, food, sleeping containers for houses destroyed. Mr. Minister of the Interior with Mr. Raed Arafat came and with the Gendarmerie they will place two camps close to the affected areas. The mayor has already taken care of places in the school”stated Ciolacu.
