Elena Lasconi, USR’s candidate for the position of president of Romania, wanted to make a series of clarifications regarding Romanians who choose abroad, made in an interview given to Mihai Gâdea. Lasconi says he is the target of disinformation and manipulation campaigns.
“I emphasized the fact that I am not betraying my country, referring to the old politicians who put the interests of the party and the group above the interests of the Romanians. This is the reason why we have a political system marked by corruption and bad governance, this is the reason why we have the highest inflation and the highest deficit in the European Union, this is the reason why millions of Romanians chose to leave the country in seeking a better life for themselves and their children”stated Elena Lasconi.
The president of the USR mentioned that she has said countless times that the corrupt and flawed political system does not scare her and that she will try to change the current paradigm of the state’s functioning.
“In the same interview, I said very clearly that the diaspora is made up of people who love their country and that the Romanians who live outside the borders are the biggest investor in Romania’s economy. The Diaspora represents the most important treasure of Romania, it is about Romanians with expertise, with work ethic and whose longing for the country and their loved ones made them love Romania even more. One of the reasons that led me to enter politics is that many of my loved ones are in the diaspora. My only child lives in France, my brother and seven nephews whom I have seen mostly on Skype live in Australia, I have uncles and aunts in Switzerland, good friends in Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and USA “, according to the USR leader.
Lasconi also stated that he wants Romanians from the diaspora to return home to rebuild Romania on solid foundations.
“I am saddened by such positions of some politicians who in recent months have queued up at our headquarters to ask us to accept them in a political alliance through which they can once again obtain signs that confirm their status as politicians. Now it is clearer than ever that the decision of the absolute majority of my colleagues to no longer welcome such people, who use the same pesedist tactics, was the right one. Politics must be done in good faith and with respect for the truth.
Fortunately, Romanians, from the country or from the diaspora, are too intelligent to be manipulated by such subversions specific to the electoral campaigns of the 90s, when the manipulations of Iliescu’s security guards took the place of the truth.
We will all be the target of such disinformation and manipulation campaigns in the coming months. However, I have faith in the intelligence of Romanians, from the country and from the diaspora. I trust that the Romanians will understand that such actions have the sole purpose of preserving the current vile political system, which acts directly and through intermediaries to consolidate it.
The truth will triumph”concluded Elena Lasconi.
