The on-the-spot or on-the-job residency admission competition for medical, dental and pharmacy students takes place this year on November 17, according to an order of the Minister of Health, published in the Official Gazette.

Residency 2024. How to register for the exam
Registrations are made between October 9-22 at the county and Bucharest city public health departments and at the ministries with their own health network. The schedule for submitting files will be as follows: from Monday to Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Fridays. Competition files can be submitted by post or courier services between October 9 and 22, 2024, including the date of the post.
What documents must the application file contain?
The application file must contain the following documents:
- The registration application where the name of the candidate, the university center he attended, the field for which he is competing. Also, the candidate will have to give a declaration of consent for the processing of personal data.
- Copy of bulletin, passport, residence permit on the territory of Romania;
- Legalized copy of doctor’s, dentist’s or pharmacist’s degree;
- Legalized copy of doctor’s, dentist’s or pharmacist’s degree;
- The certificate (original) issued by the unit in which he is employed, showing the specialty in which he is confirmed and the type of individual employment contract;
- The medical certificate (original) regarding the state of health, in which it is specified that the student is fit/unfit from a medical point of view (physical and neuropsychological) to exercise the activity in the field for which he is applying;
- Copy of the supporting documents regarding the name change compared to the name entered in the bachelor’s degree, if applicable;
- Competition fee payment receipt. The competition fee is established by the Ministry of Health and is paid to the ministry’s account, which will be indicated in the competition announcement.
Residency 2024. How the competition is conducted
The competition is held in the university centers of Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iași, Târgu Mureș and Timișoara. The lists of candidates admitted to the competition, by university centers and fields, will be displayed on the rezidentiat.ms.ro website on November 1, 2024. On November 14, 2024, candidates can find out the room and the start time of the competition test by visiting the pages of the universities of medicine and pharmacy or the website rezidentiat.ms.ro.
On the day of the test, candidates can enter the hall where they have been assigned from 8.30 am. They must have their bulletin, identity card, passport or residence permit, documents that must be within their validity period. Those without such a valid document are not admitted to the competition hall.
The students are seated in the hall in alphabetical order, according to the final lists displayed, with the exception of husband-wife, brother-sister pairs, who have the obligation, under penalty of cancellation of the paper and elimination from the competition, to report these situations to the head of the hall, in order to be placed separately. Candidates are seated in the hall in such a way that there is at least one free seat between 2 candidates, respecting the distance of at least 1 meter.
Starting at 9:00 a.m., the answer grids are distributed to the candidates and a black carioca to fill in the grid (both for filling in the answers considered correct and for filling in the identity data).
The exam consists of a grid test containing 200 questions and students will have four hours to complete the requirements. The minimum passing score is 60% of the maximum score. For reasons of cyber security, on the day of the contest, between 10.00 and 14.00, the official websites of the universities of medicine and pharmacy suspend their activity.
Occupancy of positions
The occupation of the places/positions in the specialty is done in order of the promotion score obtained, within the limits of the places/positions published in the competition. Doctors, dentists and pharmacists who become residents on places conclude an individual employment contract for a fixed period, equal to the duration of the residency, with the health unit to which the places for the residency were assigned. Doctors, dentists and pharmacists who become residents on the post conclude an individual employment contract for an indefinite period with the health unit.
