Bogdan Ivan, Minister of Economy, Digitization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, has signed the financing agreements for the internet connection of 994 localities from isolated areas.
The investment amounts to 94 million euros, from the PNRR, and involves the construction of 3,550 kilometers of fiber optic, through which 78,434 households will benefit from the Internet with speeds over 300 Mbps. This will reduce the development differences and will contribute to facilitating access to information for the inhabitants of these localities.
“I promised we didn’t leave anyone behind. Through this investment of 94 million euros from the PNRR, we eliminate the digital barriers between the rural and the urban areas. Over 78,400 households in isolated areas will benefit from high -speed internet through fiber optic, at speeds over 300 Mbps. It is essential for all students to have internet access, modern education cannot exist without connectivity and access to information”, Stated Minister Bogdan Ivan.
The funds are dedicated to localities from all over the country where there is no internet or fixed networks are insufficiently developed, being provided in component 7 – digital transformation from the National Plan for Redress and Resility (PNRR).
The investment comprises two priority areas, with the term of completion at the beginning of 2026: coverage with access to high-speed internet access services completely “white” (not served with fixed networks, but in which there is a latent demand and/or socio-economic inductors: school, kindergarten, dispensary, public institution, etc.) Fixed networks, in which speeds must be improved, and the market fails to cover these needs, according to the ministry.
