Romania achieved unprecedented success at the International Informatics Olympiad (IOI) 2025, held in the city of Sucre in Bolivia. The four students who represented our country returned home with four gold medals, thus marking the best ranking of Romania in the history of this competition, reached its 37th edition.
“Historical result for Romania at the International Informatics Olympiad: four gold medals! (…) It is the best result obtained by Romania at this competition, located at the 37th edition. Ioi has been held in Sucre, in Bolivia, with the participation of over 90 countries”, The Ministry of Education transmitted on Saturday, August 2, in a message distributed on Facebook.

The organizational component was managed by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Research.
Bitter comments in the online environment
In addition to the congratulations for the four Romanian “gold” students, many of the people who have left messages have expressed their dissatisfaction for the recent Minister of Education to cut from students’ merit scholarships and especially to eliminate scholarships for those who achieve exceptional results, as in this case, in competitions and Olympics.
* “An exceptional result! A titanic work, many sacrifices, but also joys! Congratulations to the students, their parents and teachers! Shame on all those who decided to cut the exchanges of the Olympics! These children do not work for money, but education costs, Minister !!! ”, wrote a lady.
* “Congratulations to students and teachers and parents for support! The ministry should not be proud, because it has not made any contribution. Moreover, they will cut their scholarships. This is how the people know to reward the effort.”
* “Wow, historical performance !! Congrats on their teachers and parents! And the Ministry of Education-Romania to be proud to offer Likes on FB and so on! Be proud of the economy he made when he totally cut the exchanges of Olympic excellence! ”
* “Good thing you cut their exchanges of Olympic excellence!”, These are some of the bitter comments of Romanians about the new measures that directly affect the deserving children.
We remind you that this summer the Romanian students also obtained exceptional results at the International Physics Olympiad 2025 (IPHO), held on July 17-25 in Paris, France, where they returned home with a gold medal, four silver medals and two special prizes.
