As August advances and the summer season is approaching the end, it becomes more and more clear that many Romanians have oriented their attention this summer to pragmatic holidays-which combine a controlled budget for close destinations, quiet beaches and authentic experiences.
The Mediterranean islands, such as Skiathos, in the top of the Romanian Phototravel Phototravel preferences
The data analyzed so far by important players on the tourism market indicates that six out of ten Romanian tourists have chosen, in the summer season 2025, accessible prices, between 320 and 500 euros for a week. The favorite options were short -term charter flights, of maximum two hours, sometimes even to the detriment of the holidays organized on their own. It reflects, support tour operators, a clear tendency of Romanian tourists to opt for well-structured packages, which include assistance and transfers, thus providing safety and comfort in planning of leave.
Mediterranean islands in 2025: Favorite destinations by Romanians
Greece continues to attract tourists, even on the less popular islands, such as Skiathos and Lesbos, which offer a quiet alternative, with Blue Flag certified beaches, traditional villages and tasty local preparations. At the same time, the Italian Ischia island is gaining more and more appreciation from the Romanians, due to the combination of spectacular landscapes and the famous thermal springs with therapeutic effects.
Even now, towards the end of summer, travel agents such as Aerotravel report that flights to these destinations are almost sold out, and many tourists are already planning a second vacation for the coming months, taking advantage of the favorable conditions and competitive prices.
Home holidays in 2025: Mediterranean destinations and quick access with direct flights
In addition to the islands, the Romanians have chosen destinations from the continental Greece, Turkey, Spain, Bulgaria or even mountain resorts and the Romanian coast, which shows that relaxation is an essential objective, and proximity is an important advantage.
In addition, quick access with direct flights and accessible rates have mattered a lot in the decision -making process.
Successful holidays for Romanians: emotion and relaxation, with an emphasis on authentic destinations
In addition to the desire for luxurious and extravagant stays, tourists today seek especially emotion, moments of peace and authentic memories. A holiday that will bring joy and relaxation, perhaps even more than top services or sophisticated facilities.
This explains why destinations with a quiet atmosphere, such as Lesbos or Skiathos, and places that offer a balance between nature, local gastronomy and facilities, are found in the tops of Romanian tourists when it comes to holidays abroad.
Tourism 2025: Accessible holidays. Greece, Italy and Bulgaria in the top of Romanians’ preferences
Recent analyzes, carried out by travel agencies, reservation platforms and banking companies – such as the poll conducted this month by CEC Bank, in partnership with the Finzoom.ro bank comparator – confirms a clear trend for 2025: Romanian tourists become more attentive to the budget allocated to the holidays, preferring options with direct flights and services. This approach reflects, in fact, a similar tendency at a global level.
According to the survey conducted by CEC Bank, in the top of the favorite destinations by Romanian tourists, along with those already mentioned, there are also Egypt and France. The analysis also shows that three out of four Romanians who choose to spend their vacation abroad in the summer of 2025 opt for destinations in southern Europe. Most also prefer to travel individually, with the personal car (54.5%), while the train (22%), the coach (12%) and the plane (11%) are less used options.
External Holidays 2025: Controlled budgets but total increasing expenses
Although they seek to save, Romanians are likely to overcome the ceiling allocated to holidays abroad compared to last year. If 9.6 billion euros were spent in 2024, for 2025 it is estimated that the amount will exceed 11 billion euros, considering that in the first four months of the year, 3 billion euros have already been spent.
Greece and Italy remain the main favorite destinations by Romanians, along with Bulgaria. Partly, this trend is also influenced by the reduction of the maximum ceiling of holiday vouchers, in a context where prices for internal tourism have increased significantly. In addition, the neighboring country, Bulgaria has registered a record of Romanian tourists this year, being the most many foreign tourists, which shows that geographical proximity and advantageous costs are essential criteria in choosing the destination.
At the same time, the demand for stays with flexible services, various accommodation options and quick access to the beach or local attractions has increased considerably. Tourists show an increased interest in holidays that combine relaxation with authentic, local experiences.
Accessible holidays in Greece and Italy: Charter flights by September 2025
The attraction of Greece for Romanians is also supported by the accessibility of transport, the charter flights to some Greek islands being available until the end of September, for example. These include regular races to Skiathos and Lesbos (Greece), as well as Ischia (Italy)-with a stop in Salerno or Napoli, with departures from both Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.
For many, the summer of 2025 was about rediscovering the holidays – closer to home, more friendly with the budget and charged with memorable experiences.
