Romania reveals its squad for the Women’s Handball World Cup: two notable absences

Romania’s national women’s handball team enters the straight line towards the World Championship in Holland and Germany (November 26 – December 14, 2025), and the selector Ovidiu Mihăilă announced the team for the Carpathian Trophy, the team that, for the most part, will also go to the final tournament.

The “tricolors” will have a difficult mission at the World Cup, being assigned to a strong group, along with Croatia, Japan and Denmark.

Two important players, left out of the team

The selector Mihăilă made two difficult decisions: Bianca Bazaliu and Ștefania Stoica (both from Gloria Bistrița) did not get the final batch. On the left wing position, the selector preferred to go with Sorina Grozav and the naturalized Maryia Skrobic.

Next comes the Carpathian Trophy, then the World Championship

Romania will play the Carpathian Trophy matches in Bistrita, between November 17 and 24, where they will meet Portugal (November 20), the Czech Republic (November 22) and Austria (November 23).

Then, the team will leave for Rotterdam, for the debut at the Women’s Handball World Championship. Romania will play:

  • Croatia – November 27
  • Japan – November 29
  • Denmark – December 1
