ANSVSA informs that pigs can be slaughtered in the household only under sanitary-veterinary control, so that the health of the animal and the safety of the meat are verified, and the meat from traditional slaughterings in the household cannot be sold, but is intended exclusively for family consumption.

It is also prohibited to sell meat from households located in areas under veterinary health restrictions due to African Swine Fever.

ANSVSA reminds that all pork, domestic or boar, must be trichinelloscopically tested in authorized centers for 27-101 lei + VAT, otherwise there is a risk of getting sick with Trichinella. V

The sale of uncontrolled meat is a serious offense and is punishable by fines of up to 40,000 lei and may encourage the spread of African Swine Fever. After purchase, animal products must be refrigerated quickly and stored according to instructions, otherwise they can cause food poisoning.

Recommendations for shopping in markets and fairs

The cited authority recommends citizens to buy products only from authorized premises, to check the existence of functional refrigerated display cases, to control the integrity of the packaging, to ensure that the labels contain complete information about the manufacturer, storage conditions, ingredients and expiration dates, to buy cheeses only in single-use packaging, correctly labeled and to avoid purchasing animal products from unauthorized persons or from improvised places.

Attention should also be paid to the products sold temporarily in booths, kiosks, caravans, seasonal stands – which must be authorized and comply with veterinary sanitary norms.

In order to support citizens during this busy period, veterinarians from the Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Directorates (DSVSA) and the official veterinary sanitary constituencies (CSVSAO) will have extended hours, including on weekends.

The schedule, the names of the doctors in charge and the contact numbers will be displayed on the authorities’ websites and in the workplaces.

“In this period of intense activity in households and the food trade, the responsibility of each of us is essential. Compliance with simple rules – from sanitary-veterinary control to the purchase of food from authorized sources – protects our health and prevents unwanted events. ANSVSA will continue to be present in the field to prevent risks and to protect consumers,” declares Dr. Alexandru Bociu, president of ANSVSA.

ANSVSA announces an extensive nationwide control campaign to ensure food safety and prevent toxic infections and animal diseases. Checks will take place in markets, slaughterhouses, processing units, warehouses, grocery stores, restaurants, pizzerias, catering, confectionery, hotels, guesthouses and large commercial chains.

Enhanced controls are announced

As part of these controls, compliance with sanitary and veterinary rules regarding hygiene, product traceability, processing, packaging, storage and marketing conditions will be verified.

In collaboration with the County Police Inspectorates and the County Gendarmerie Inspectorates, the ANSVSA teams check the transport of animals and food products, including compliance with the restrictions applied in areas with active outbreaks of PPA.

In the event that irregularities are found, ANSVSA applies contraventional sanctions according to the legislation in force, as well as complementary measures provided for by the legislation in force, which may include confiscation of products or the suspension/banning of the unit’s activity.

For additional information and to report irregularities, citizens can call the ANSVSA Call Center free of charge at 0800 826 787. The number is available from any telephone network.
