Money management can become complicated when you live outside the country: accounts opened in several countries, different commissions, bills to pay in Romania or frequent transfers to the family remaining in the country. Thus, digital banking solutions are gaining more and more ground, especially among Romanians in the diaspora.
BT Pay, the banking application of Banca Transilvania, allows Romanians abroad to open an account 100% online and manage their money directly from their phone, regardless of the country in which they are located.
The application offers access to accounts and virtual cards in lei, euros or dollars, currency exchange directly in the application, bill payments from Romania, fast money transfers, savings options, as well as travel insurance.
An important advantage for those in the diaspora is the absence of account and card opening and administration fees. The physical card can be delivered free of charge in several European countries (Italy, Spain, Germany, Great Britain and the Republic of Moldova), and in other situations it can be picked up in Romania, from a unit of Banca Transilvania.
Dedicated solutions for Romanians in Italy
For Romanians settled in Italy, Banca Transilvania launched BT Pay Italia, a version of the application adapted to the local market. It provides Italian IBAN so that income earned in Italy can be cashed directly into the account without cashing commission.
BT is the only Romanian bank present in Italy, with a dedicated branch in Rome, active for over 12 years.
Residents of Italy can open their account using Romanian or Italian documents, and the physical card is delivered free of charge anywhere in Italy. They also benefit from 5 free withdrawals per month, at any ATM in Italy or abroad.
More about the benefits dedicated to Romanians in Italy are available on the bank’s website.
Hello, BT Pay! Opportunity for those who want to start now
Currently, Banca Transilvania is running the Hello, BT Pay! campaign, addressed to Romanians in the diaspora who open their account 100% online until March 9, 2026.
After installing the application and issuing a card in euros, the first 2,000 users who open their account and make at least one payment in euros by phone or online using a BT card until May 31 can receive 5% cashback, of a maximum of 100 euros, from the total value of the transactions.
For Romanians in the diaspora who want more financial control and less bureaucracy, digital solutions like BT Pay can become a useful tool in everyday life.
