Revolt in chancelleries: Covasna, the county with the largest number of teachers who said “NO” to simulations

Although across the country, according to the unions, 73,000 members have declared themselves in favor of boycotting the mock national exams, the activity has been prevented in quite a few centers nationally, compared to the total. Covasna county is the leader of non-participation.

In Covasna county, 52 centers were organized to take the National Assessment exam. In all, on Monday, March 16, 2026, 8th grade students should have taken the written exam in Romanian Language and Literature as part of the exam simulation. The teachers members in the county union affiliated to the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI) decided in large numbers not to participate and respected their option, so in 11 activity centers the simulation for the national exams could not be organized. It is, most likely, the county with the most “boycotted” centers.

The county leader Gabor Nagy stated for “Adevărul” that among the centers where, considering the refusal of the teachers, the test could not be organized, there are three large units from the municipality of Sfântul Gheorghe.

In the municipality of Sfântul Gheorghe, the seat of the county, we have three high schools, the largest and most significant high schools – Miko High School (n. ed. – National College “Székely Mikó” Sfântu Gheorghe), Mikes High School (n. ed. – Theoretical High School “Mikes Kelemen” Sfântu Gheorghe), Reformed High School -, where the Evaluation is not organized”said Gabor Nagy.

The union leader says it’s actually not a boycott, but a refusal to participate “to an unpaid activity, which is not included in the job description”. “Classes are held according to the school timetable”, added the leader, also stating that there was no pressure on the teachers to participate in the simulation activities.

In the coming days, data will also be centralized regarding the participation of colleagues from Covasna in the simulation of the national Baccalaureate exam tests, Nagy also specified.

According to the data provided by the Covasna County School Inspectorate, in this county 1,737 students should have taken the tests of the National Assessment simulation (1,181 taking three tests, because they will also take the exam in the Mother Tongue). Due to the boycott of this activity, 1,250 students were expected in the participating centers for the Romanian Language and Literature exam.

Schools without simulation also in Iași, Bucharest, Gorj, Cluj

At the level of the entire country, the simulation was organized in 4,545 educational units (97.8% of all secondary level educational units), being boycotted in only 104 school units. Among the counties with schools where the simulation was not organized were: Gorj, Cluj, Iași. Also, in several schools in Bucharest, teachers refused to participate in the simulation.

Over 145,200 students were present throughout the country at the first test of the National Assessment simulation, with 11,800 absent from the units where the test was held. More than 5,200 other students could not take the exam in Romanian language and literature because the simulation could not be organized.

School inspectors from Gorj, co-opted to the center from the “Tudor Vladimirescu” National College

A special situation also occurred at the “Tudor Vladimirescu” National College in the municipality of Târgu-Jiu, where the school inspectors were co-opted by the management team in order to ensure the human resource necessary to carry out the simulation.

The general school inspector of IȘJ Gorj, Marian Staicu, told “Adevărul” that inspectors did, indeed, participate in the simulation activity in that center, but that they are teachers of the school.

I have five inspectors assigned to this high school. They have 10 hours at school. And the director asked me if the inspectors could participate. I told him yes, they are the owners of the school, there are teachers there. School inspectors who are tenured in other schools did not go there. Their people from school have gone And they weren’t all there either. I think there were three, who probably had classes at school and stopped them at school.” said the head of IȘJ Gorj.

In Gorj, there was only one educational unit in which the simulation was not organized, in Bumbești Jiu (the unit has 63 8th grade students enrolled), out of 86 schools. IȘJ Gorj organized 73 exam centers, where more than 2,500 students were expected.

The head of IȘJ Gorj also stated that, most likely, after the 12th grade students will take the simulation, the students from the school where the National Assessment simulation was not organized will have a special session. “It’s normal to test them as well and let them know where they are with their training. At the same time, let’s test ourselves from an administrative point of view”Staicu also said
