Albinen is a small town in the canton of Valais, with only about 262 inhabitants. The town is known for its spectacular mountain landscapes and the tranquility typical of alpine areas.

The local authorities have decided, by vote, to grant up to 27,000 euros to people who choose to settle in the village, in an attempt to combat depopulation.

Travel vlogger Ben Morris recently visited the area to see if the offer is as attractive in reality as it seems. He was impressed by the alpine landscapes, describing them as straight “incredible”and said the mere experience of admiring the view was worth the visit, according to the Express.

However, after analyzing the conditions imposed, he discovered that there is a trap that limits access to this financial benefit.

“Si know what you all are thinking. This village looks wonderful. How do you sign up to receive the money? Unfortunately, there are some requirements. That makes it a little less appealing“, he explained.

Among the main conditions is the obligation to purchase, build or renovate a main residence in Albinen with a minimum value of 200,000 Swiss francs. Also, the home must be a permanent residence, not a vacation home.

In addition, those who receive the money must commit to living in the village for at least 10 years. Furthermore, eligibility is restricted: applicants must be Swiss citizens or hold a permanent residence permit (C permit), and according to some sources, there is also an age limit of under 45.

“It can’t be a holiday home. And that’s also pretty crazy. You have to commit to living in the village for at least 10 years. That’s probably the condition that will put off most of you watching this clip. You also have to either be a Swiss citizen or hold a Swiss C permit for permanent residence“, he said.

After learning all these details, the vlogger concluded that the offer no longer seems as advantageous as at first glance, despite the spectacular natural setting and the tranquility offered by life in the Alps.
