USR president Dominic Fritz accuses PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu of putting political interests ahead of Romania’s, after he warned that the social democrats might not vote for the PNRR laws. He claims that the real stake is the removal of Ilie Bolojan.
Dominic Fritz stated that the position expressed by Sorin Grindeanu shows that PSD is exclusively pursuing a political objective.
“At least they accept the fact that it is no longer about Romanians, it is no longer about the country’s finances, about responsibility, but it is strictly speaking here that the PSD would like another head, a teenage victory. At least they are not pretending anymore and, in a way, maybe that is healthy”. said Dominic Fritz, at Digi 24.
He warned that the blocking of PNRR projects could have direct consequences on the economy, including the loss of some European funds.
“The obligation is not towards Ilie Bolojan or towards the USR or towards the government. The obligation is towards the citizens of Romania, who expect us not to lose 3 billion euros, which if we lose, we have to replace them with loans and the deficit increases again, inflation increases again”, said the president of USR.
In his opinion, the social democrats did not object to the content of the legislative projects, but condition the vote on the change of the prime minister.
“I’m not saying that they have an amendment or that they want changes for the good of Romanians. They just want Bolojan’s head. It’s a political obsession that does absolutely nothing to improve the lives of Romanians”, Fritz added.
The USR leader’s reaction comes after Sorin Grindeanu said that the PSD could refuse to support the outstanding projects from the PNRR in Parliament, accusing the Government of trying to use this legislative package for political purposes.
“The strategy of the sacked Prime Minister Bolojan to continue governing through the Parliament and putting pressure on the PSD votes is completely wrong. The PSD cannot agree to the use of the PNRR as a media cover for the obscure interests of some right-wing leaders”, said Grindeanu.
The leader of the PSD emphasized that his party is in the opposition and that it does not have the obligation to ensure the majority for the projects of the Executive.
“The PSD is in the opposition. It does not hold any position in the Government. It is not the responsibility of the PSD”, he declared.
Consultations without result at Cotroceni
Dominic Fritz stated that the discussions at the Cotroceni Palace took place in a civilized climate, but without concrete progress.
“I wasn’t Zen, because I feel great frustration and great concern on the part of the Romanians. We didn’t go there to do yoga together, but to discuss very seriously the solutions for Romania. Unfortunately, not everyone came with a constructive attitude”said the USR leader.
He contradicted the leader of the UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, who described the meeting as one held in an atmosphere “zen”.
“It was a good atmosphere, zen, if you can say that. We first discussed the laws related to PNRR and SAFE and then we discussed politics. We stayed for two hours and everyone was very argumentative and without nerves. The president, patient, mediator, but unfortunately we did not reach a solution”Kelemen Hunor said earlier.
