The meeting of the Extended Political Bureau of the PNL is considered a decisive one for establishing the direction of the party and the government in the coming period. At the end of the meeting, the liberal leadership will officially announce what decisions will be taken in the context of the crisis in the coalition.

According to political sources, the dominant message within the party is one of support for Ilie Bolojan. The leaders of the county organizations expressed, in turn, their support for the prime minister, even in the conditions where the social democrats voted in proportion to 97.7% the withdrawal of political confidence.

An important signal also came from Hubert Thuma, previously considered one of Bolojan’s critics, who declared his support for him during the meeting. “We support you as Prime Minister. You have taken difficult steps and must stay to see the results”Thuma would have said, according to the sources.

In front of his party colleagues, the prime minister explained the reasons that led to the break with the PSD, accusing a strategy by which the coalition partners would have tried to distance themselves from the government’s measures, although they were adopted by mutual agreement.

Ilie Bolojan claimed that, in the first months, the coalition worked “acceptably”, but later the social democrats would have started to build an opposition profile within the government, amid the drop in the polls.

On Monday, the PSD decided with an overwhelming vote, over 97%, to withdraw its political support to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

“The mandate we received from you, we, is as clear as possible. When 97.7% of your colleagues tell you that this is the mandate, that Ilie Bolojan must go home, there is no room for anything else. I and Claudiu and the vice-presidents and all the party leadership understood this”. said Grindeanu, after the vote.
