On Tuesday, May 12, 2nd grade students took the written exam in Romanian as part of the 2026 National Assessment, testing conducted during class hours. The children had 45 minutes to solve the requirements, structured in such a way as to check the level of correct writing and understanding of the basic notions of the Romanian language.
Grade II tests (like those for IV and VI) assess progress on several levels: from basic skills such as reading and writing to more complex skills such as interpreting a text or solving applied problems.
Unlike high-stakes exams, these tests have a diagnostic role: they measure students’ level of preparation, and the results can be used by schools and teachers to adapt teaching methods and support students where needed.
An essential aspect: the results are not made public and, by default, are not passed into the catalog. However, at the request of the student and the parents/legal guardian, the scores can be equated with grades or qualifications.
What the students had to solve in the written exam in the Romanian Language within the 2026 National Assessment
The first task consisted of transcribing a short text about squirrels.
In total, the test contained 12 requirements, including choosing the correct form of some words, identifying synonyms and antonyms, as well as syllable division exercises. Among the words to be analyzed were “sun” and “peanuts”.
One of the final requirements involved completing a dialogue between squirrels and a hedgehog, an exercise that assessed the coherence and logic of written expression.
The structure of the test sought to verify the skills of producing written messages and the correct application of the rules of the Romanian language at the level of class II.
The correction of the papers is done within the school, by two teaching staff, one of whom is the classroom teacher. Results must be completed no later than seven days after the last test.
