The specialists from European Best Destinations announce which is the most beautiful beach in Europe, following the ranking made after selecting 10 beaches from each country.
The editorial team from European Best Destinations has published the ranking of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, according to Mediafax.
The list is published every year. Beaches are rated based on criteria such as natural beauty, accessibility, beach services and overall atmosphere.
Afterwards, the list is reduced to 30 beaches, which are then sent to an international jury of travelers who determine the final ranking.
The most beautiful beach is in Portugal
This year, the top-ranked beach is Monte Clérigo in Portugal.
Located in the southwestern tip of the country, the beach was chosen by European Best Destinations because it caters to those looking for “authenticity, nature and discreet luxury, away from the overcrowded resorts”, according to the source.
In terms of nature, the beach is part of the South-West Natural Park of Alentejo and the Vicentine Coast. Thus, there are plenty of hiking trails in the surroundings.
The ranking also takes accessibility into account. According to the ranking, accommodation here is up to three times cheaper than in more popular places in Portugal.
Other beaches in the ranking
The second place in the ranking was occupied by Voutoumi beach, on the north-eastern coast of Antipaxos island in Greece.
The third and fourth place were also occupied by two Greek destinations: Fteri beach in Kefalonia and Elafonisi beach in Crete.
Italy completed the top five with Bogliasco beach, located in a picturesque village near Genoa.
Spain is in sixth place, with the Cala Mesquida beach in Mallorca, the source also shows.
Norway is also on this list, even if the country is not known as a beach destination. Kvalvika Beach on the island of Moskenesøya is ranked seventh.
Rovinia Beach in Corfu is in eighth place, and Kaputaş Beach in Turkey is in ninth place.
Last but not least, Paleokastritsa Beach in Corfu was ranked 10th.
