Funding for the construction of the new Zerlendi Tuberculosis Diagnostic and Treatment Center within the “Marius Nasta” National Institute of Pneumophila in Bucharest has been unblocked, and the builder has returned to the site, the Ministry of Health announced in a statement.
According to the institution, the Government approved on Wednesday a decision by which the technical-economic indicators of the investment are updated, a necessary measure for the continuation of the financing and implementation of the project.
The Ministry of Health states that the Acting Minister of Health, Cseke Attila, has initiated the necessary steps to unlock the funding so that the project can continue without further delays.
“Last week we received the 1.2 billion lei from the state budget to continue financing the 6 hospitals in the PNRR and now we are taking the administrative steps to make the payments. As I stated, updating the technical-economic indicators by Government Decision is a legally necessary step to ensure the continuity of investments and to unlock funding. Today we succeeded in this necessary step for the Zerlendi Center”, stated Cseke Attila, quoted in the press release.
For his part, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said, in a post on Facebook, that the Government reapproved the technical-economic indicators of the project so that the builder could collect his outstanding payments and resume work.
“Today we unblocked the works at the “Marius Nasta” Institute of Pneumophthisiology in Bucharest, one of the hospitals on the list of projects financed by European funds through PNRR. We reapproved the technical and economic indicators in the Government meeting, so that the builder can collect his outstanding payments and the works can be resumed under normal conditions”, wrote Bolojan.
The City Hall of Sector 4, the institution implementing the project, announced that the new Center for Diagnosis, Treatment and Research of Tuberculosis is approximately 80% completed and that the works were resumed immediately after the approval of the updated technical and economic indicators. According to the local administration, the builder is already on site with all available teams and is currently working on the interior finishes. Sector 4 expects to complete the investment in August this year.

According to the Ministry of Health, the total updated value of the investment is 640.2 million lei, including VAT.
The new medical unit will be built within the “Marius Nasta” Pneumophthisiology Institute and will have an area of over 15,700 square meters. The center will have 115 beds for continuous hospitalization, an operating block with three operating rooms, modern laboratories, spaces dedicated to research and medical education, as well as an integrated digital system, interoperable with the main IT platforms in health.
According to the prime minister, the project also involves the modernization and expansion of the medical infrastructure by building a new center for the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, as well as making investments for the ATI section and the bronchoscopy laboratory.
It also informs the Ministry of Health that the project is financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Health Component, as well as from the state budget, through the Ministry of Health.
The mayor of Sector 4, Daniel Băluță, said that the resumption of works marks the entry of the project into the final stage and that the new center will serve patients from the whole country.
“The implementation of PNRR projects is a priority for the Government. Romania needs modern hospitals and serious investments in health. These projects must be completed,” Ilie Bolojan wrote.
