President Nicușor Dan arrived on Tuesday afternoon, July 7, at the NATO summit in Ankara. The images published by the Presidential Administration show the head of state accompanied by his partner, Mirabela Grădinaru. Meanwhile, Nicușor Dan met with the delegation of the US Congress.

In a post on X, the head of state announced that he had a meeting with a bipartisan delegation of the US Congress on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
“We had a very good discussion about the importance of the transatlantic relationship and about our common priorities on the Alliance agenda.
We also analyzed concrete ways to further develop the Strategic Partnership between the United States and Romania, with an emphasis on defense cooperation, economic opportunities and strengthening ties between the citizens of the two countries.
We will continue to collaborate to strengthen the security of the Black Sea region, the Eastern Flank and the entire Euro-Atlantic space”, transmitted Nicușor Dan.
On Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., Nicușor Dan and Mirabela Grădinaru will attend the official reception and dinner for the heads of state and government and their partners, offered by the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and First Lady Emine Erdoğan, at the Beștepe Presidential Complex.
On Wednesday, President Dan will participate in the NATO Summit – a moment that will include:
- the official welcoming ceremony of the leaders by the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, and by the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
- Family photo of NATO leaders
- North Atlantic Council meeting
In parallel, Mirabela Grădinaru will also participate in the events organized by the First Lady of the Republic of Turkey, Emine Erdoğan, at the Çankaya Köşkü Presidential Palace.
On June 20, 2026, Nicușor Dan was in Istanbul with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The two heads of state then participated in the official ceremony of awarding the flag to the HISAR-class military ship “Rear-Admiral August Roman”.
At the NATO summit in Ankara, Nicușor Dan is accompanied by the interim Minister of National Defense, Radu Miruță, and General Gheorghiță Vlad, the Chief of the Defense Staff, who is currently under indictment in a case orchestrated by the DNA.
The Ministry of National Defense announced that, in addition to the meeting of heads of state and government, the interim Minister of Defense will also participate in the meeting of defense ministers from NATO member states together with partners from the Indo-Pacific region – Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea.
Romania will also be represented at the forum by delegates from the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, as well as representatives of companies from the national defense industry.
