Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan commented on Thursday the images appearing in public space that show former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu together with Ionel Arsene, the former president of the Neamț County Council, definitively convicted in Romania and wanted internationally.
Asked by journalists how he sees the meeting between the two, Bolojan avoided criticizing, preferring to convey a message with a moral tone.
“You’re taking me to an area of this that I don’t want to go into, but I can tell you that generally, you are what you do, not what you say.” declared the interim prime minister, during a press conference.
The statement comes after the PSD president, Sorin Grindeanu, stated on Wednesday that he did not know about the meeting between Marcel Ciolacu and Ionel Arsene and urged the former prime minister to provide public explanations.
“Marcel Ciolacu will answer on this subject, it’s very good and I would encourage him to do it. We each answer on what we do”, Grindeanu declared at the Parliament. Asked if he had discussed this topic with Ciolacu, the PSD leader replied: “No, I didn’t know.”
Asked about this meeting, Ciolacu said: “I have a request: what I do personally does not concern anyone”.
The topic arose after HotNews published photos showing Marcel Ciolacu and Ionel Arsene at Villa Cortine Palace, a luxury hotel located on the shores of Lake Garda in northern Italy.
Ionel Arsene was definitively sentenced in Romania to six years and eight months in prison for bribery, after the prosecutors established that he received 100,000 euros. Before the sentencing, the former leader of the CJ Neamț fled to Italy, and the Italian authorities rejected the extradition request made by Romania. Currently, Arsene is on the international wanted list of the Romanian Police.
