Ireland has been named the most scenic country in the world, according to a ranking based on the evaluations of more than 6,000 international tourists. With a score of 9.52 out of 10, the ‘Emerald Isle’ beat destinations famous for their spectacular scenery such as New Zealand, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Croatia.
DiscoverCars.com’s ranking was based on a survey in which participants gave scores from 1 to 10 to the scenery they discovered during their travels. Only countries that received at least 50 ratings were included in the analysis.
“We wanted to find out where the most spectacular views in the world are, according to our customers. One of the best parts of a vacation is discovering landscapes and places you don’t see every day.” said Aleksandrs Buraks, director of development at DiscoverCars.com, quoted the Express.
Spectacular landscapes that attract millions of tourists
Although the capital Dublin is one of the country’s most visited destinations, the real attraction of Ireland remains the nature. Highlights include the Glendalough Glacial Valley in County Wicklow, the scenic Wild Atlantic Way and the Copper Coast in County Waterford.
Tourists are also attracted by the Cliffs of Moher, one of the most famous symbols of Ireland, but also by the Slieve League cliffs in County Donegal, which reach almost 600 meters in height and are among the highest sea cliffs in Europe.
Other popular destinations are the Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park, The Burren – a unique karst landscape -, Connemara National Park and, in Northern Ireland, the Giant’s Causeway basalt formation and the spectacular North Antrim coast.
New Zealand and Portugal complete the podium
According to the 2025 study, the second place in the ranking of the most picturesque countries in the world was New Zealand, with a score of 9.43 out of 10. Portugal and the United Kingdom share the third position, followed by Croatia and Greece (4th place).
The first ten places are completed by Poland and Italy (fifth place), Cyprus, France, Spain, the United States and Mauritius.
“We found several ties in the top rankings, with many European destinations dominating the list. However, Ireland came out on top, which is no surprise as the Emerald Isle is full of natural beauty and scenery that impresses visitors,” Aleksandrs Buraks also stated.
