The former Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, said on Tuesday, August 11, that those who held “to the drawer” and they did not tender the project on raising the level of the bottom of the Bala arm must answer.
“At the moment, if that project exists, and it has not been operationalized, whoever set it up is normal to answer. I don’t know exactly at what stage it is”, said the former minister to Digi 24.
Bogdan Ivan also says that, during the time he was a minister, he negotiated with the World Bank a financing of 3 billion dollars for the refurbishment of Unit 1 from Cernavodă.
“Those works would be assumed that – they are also ongoing, that is, the official announcement has been made, the people from the World Bank will also have to sign the financial agreement with Romania during this summer, until October at the latest – it would also be assumed that those intakes, as everything that means a cooling system for the reactors at Cernavodă.
The whole hydrological assembly should be made in such a way that it will be sustainable another 30 years from now, regardless of how the Danube flows will look, with a storage area by creating new cooling basins, to have a buffer period in a situation like this”, explained the former minister.
Bogdan Ivan mentioned that the pre-financing agreements for reactors 3 and 4 include, as part of the project, ensuring sustainability for 30 years, including the realization of works to ensure sufficient water to cool the reactors at Cernavodă.
On Sunday, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu, announced that the efforts of the last week for the intervention in the Bala area have led to the reversal of the decreasing trend of the water level and to a slight increase.
“Fight won, good result, but the danger has not passed. I am very glad that our efforts in the last week for the intervention in the Bala area have had good results and reactor 2 at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant remains in operation.
