Social scholarships for students in the academic year 2026-2027: Who can benefit and what amount is given monthly

More than 36,000 students will receive social grants of 925 lei per month in the academic year 2026-2027, with funding from European funds and the national budget. The universities will organize a new selection, including for those who benefited from this support in 2025-2026. Interested persons must contact the institution where they are registered, according to the calendar and procedure established by it.

The Executive Unit for the Financing of Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research, continues in the academic year 2026-2027 to grant social scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and groups through the project “Interventions for tertiary education – systemic measures to prevent and reduce university dropout”.

Social scholarships for students in the academic year 2026-2027

Scholarships of 925 lei are granted in full, regardless of the number of days with didactic activities in the respective month. The total number of beneficiaries will be over 36,000 students, at least at the level of the academic year 2025-2026. However, the announcement does not specify the number of months for which the payment will be made in the academic year 2026-2027.

In addition to financial support, beneficiaries will have access to complementary support measures, such as webinars and online workshops, on topics relevant to the university course: time management, academic stress management, development of learning skills and others.

Who can benefit from financial support

Students who cumulatively meet the following conditions can receive a social grant through the project:

  • are between 18 and 29 years old at the time of enrollment in the project’s target group;
  • are enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program;
  • follows the form of education with frequency;
  • studies on a place financed from the state budget;
  • are enrolled in a state civil higher education institution, selected for the awarding of social grants in the project.

The selection rests with the universities, which apply both the general criteria for granting scholarships, approved by the Order of the Minister of Education no. 6.463/2023, with subsequent amendments and additions, as well as own methodologies.

Fulfilling the conditions regarding age and form of study does not, by itself, ensure obtaining the social scholarship. For students who received the scholarship in the previous year, continuation of the program does not mean automatic extension of the support. They will enter a new selection procedure for the academic year 2026-2027 and must apply to the university where they are enrolled, according to the calendar and procedure established by it.
