When she was suspended from tennis in the fall of 2022, Simona Halep's first words were that she felt betrayed. A year and a half away, after the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which reduced the athlete's sentence from four years to 9 months, Simona spoke exclusively about the difficult period in her life.
“I felt betrayed at that moment, I knew I didn't do anything, it didn't even occur to me to do such a thing, nor did anyone suggest it to me. I was deeply affected inside.
I had a moment when I thought it might all be over. I had the feeling that I couldn't prove my innocence because it's a hard system to beat.” said Simona Halep on Mihai Gâdea's show, from Antena 3.
The athlete also claimed that the team of lawyers did their job well.
“When you know you haven't done anything, you think that someone has hurt you. We have asked the legal team to do everything we can to see where this problem is coming from. We were lucky to have lawyers, because there are many cases of contamination in sports. At the Academy in France I worked on trust with the people there. We discussed supplements and when they recommended this supplement I asked if they were tested and safe, but I never thought I could go through this injustice. Then I trusted and took them. I think it was negligence on the part of my team, who didn't check, but also a lot of bad luck.” Simona also said.
