The 70,000-euro machine also has a mechanical ventilator, which doctors use if the animal can no longer breathe. Students in practice at the hospital also have access to the device.
“In general, there were several people in the operating room and, in turn, we monitored the vital functions, we students and the doctors worked together”, emphasizes Mihnea, a V-year student in Veterinary Medicine, at the “Ion Ionescu de la Brad” University of Life Sciences in Iași.
“Inhalation anesthesia has become a normality for veterinary medicine as well and yes, it is being demanded more and more, it is no longer just those classic, injectable anesthesias“, adds the anesthesiologist.
With all the advantages it brings, the new anesthesia system implemented at the Animal Emergency Hospital in Iasi comes with a considerable cost for animal owners. According to the data provided, the rate for this advanced form of anesthesia is double compared to classic anesthesia.
Even though the financial investment may seem significant, pet owners in Romania seem to be willing to pay the price for high-quality veterinary medical services. According to recent statistics, Romania ranks first in the European Union in terms of the number of pet owners.
