On the plane that took her to Miami, for the first competition after a year and a half suspension from tennis, Simona Halep revealed that she told her mother that she was very emotional because she didn't know what to expect from people.
However, it had an extraordinary atmosphere, which made it feel as if it was not missing from the circuits.
“I felt like I didn't know what to expect from people in Miami. What will it be like to be back in the locker room, in the players' restaurant. This whole routine that I hadn't done for almost two years seemed new to me. And when I got there, the love I got from the people working at the tournament, from the security people and everyone around, but also from the players, helped me forget everything. And I felt like I was never suspended.
So it was a great feeling, a great energy and I was very happy in the bottom of my heart to be part of tennis again, this sport that I love. So for me it was a wonderful experience, much better than I expected. And that made me feel like, OK, now I want to go back and give it my all and see how good I can still be“, said Halep in an interview for the Associated Press, quoted by gsp.ro.
Simona also told that the suspension was like an ordeal for her, because no she could focus on training, being unsure about her future in tennis.
“It was difficult to keep training with focus and determination because I didn't know what was going to happen. After the first decision, it was very difficult to stay training every day, because I didn't know if it would be three years or less. It was difficult to manage“.
Now that she's back on the court, Simona Halep says she has to control her feelings, even if it's not easy.
