Flights from Sibiu, from 200 euros a ticket. What are the holiday destinations?

Flights to five holiday destinations this summer are resuming, with a total of ten weekly frequencies, which will be available for booking at the travel agencies with which Sibiu airport collaborates.

Turkey, Greece, Egypt or Tunisia are the destinations to which some flights have already started, in addition to the other established destinations.

According to airport representatives, in the 2024 summer season, charter flights from Sibiu to Antalya (Turkey), Crete Heraklion (Greece), Hurghada (Egypt) and Monastir (Tunisia) will resume. The novelty in terms of holiday destinations available directly from Sibiu is Rhodes (Greece), which can be found in the packages of tour operator partners with departures starting from June 13, 2024.

Packages for holiday destinations, available for booking at agencies

“Book your holiday in Antalya, Hurghada, Crete, Monastir or Rhodes in advance, directly from Sibiu! Packages for holiday destinations departing from Sibiu are available for booking at travel agencies!”is the invitation of Sibiu International Airport (AIS), which specifies the eight travel agencies with which it collaborates, well known on the market.

If only one flight per week will be available to some of the destinations, as in the case of Hurghada – Egypt (Thursdays, from March to October 2024), Monastir (Tuesdays, from June to September 2024) or Rhodes (Thursdays, from June – September 2024), departures to the other holiday destinations are more frequent.

From May to September 2024, there will be charters to Antalya (Turkey) for five days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and to Heraklion-Crete (Greece), from June to September 2024, two days a week (Wednesday and Friday).

Offers for packages more cost-effective than the price of the plane ticket

Only some of the travel agencies, with which AIS collaborates, offer, in addition to the tourist packages, which include transportation, the possibility of separate purchase of plane tickets.

After an analysis of the offers, on the website of these companies, I found out that the price of a plane ticket, departing from Sibiu, for Antalya (Turkey) varies, at the moment, between 199 and 564 euros, for Crete ( Greece) between 195 and 720 euros, and for Monastir (Tunisia) it is 609 euros.

When consulting the tourist packages, it is found that, for example, in this period there are offers for Tunisia starting from 156 euros, in Antalya – from 168 euros and in Hurghada – from 258 euros. But these are last-minute offers.

For the month of June, when the children start their summer vacation, there are packages to Tunisia starting at around 400 euros/person.

In general, however, the offers for destinations departing from Sibiu start at 500 euros/two people and vary depending on the location, period, airline, travel agency, accommodation facilities, etc.

For example, in Antalya, prices can exceed 25,000 euros, in the case of renting a villa. But this is an extreme.

Daily scheduled departures to England, Germany and Austria

Also from Sibiu dozens of flights leave daily, permanently, to seven other destinations in Germany, England and Austria.

From March and April 2024, for example, the number of direct daily flights to Austria and Germany, on the Sibiu-Vienna and Sibiu-Munich connections, has been increased. Basically, 26 weekly flights are now available to these two cities alone.

Apart from them there are also flights to Memmingen, Dortmund, Karlshrune Baden-Baden and Nurnberg.

Best deal: £18 all the way to London

And the prices can be attractive for those who are patient and know how to look for such deals. For example, on the website of one of the transport companies operating in Sibiu International Airport, there are tickets to England (London, Luton Airport) from 27 pounds, in June. To this can be added a discount for those who are members of the airline's club by which the fare is reduced almost to half – 18 pounds.

To Vienna (Austria) or Munich (Germany), prices start at around 160 euros, also on the airline's website.

In recent years, Sibiu airport has gone through a process of modernization, expansion and equipment. For example, it boasts the best thermal imaging and detection camera in Romania, worth over 1 million euros, part of the air base's video surveillance system.

However, it still has work to do in terms of access for passengers who now have to detour quite a bit from the car park or bus station to the airport premises.
