The Iberians' only defeats in matches with the trophy on the table date back to when the competition was called the European Champions Cup, in 1962 (with Benfica), 1964 (with Inter Milan) and in 1981 (with Liverpool).
It should be noted that, at the present time, the most successful team in the League is trained by the most successful coach in this competition. Carlo Ancelotti (64) has won the coveted trophy four times (2003 and 2007 with AC Milan, 2014 and 2022 with Real Madrid). The Italian also has one lost final in his record (2005 with AC Milan).
After the dramatic triumph with Bayern, Ancelotti admitted that in the Champions League Real look like a team taken in the arms of the Goddess Fortuna.
“Even I did not expect this team to be capable of such a comeback. It's something inexplicable, it's the magic of this club, of the fans who support it in a fantastic stadium and of these players who never stop believing that it's possible to do something magical“, said the Italian who is in his second term at Real Madrid, after the one from 2013-2015.
