According to specialists in the field, the year 2023 was a good one for the Romanian resorts on the shores of the Black Sea. They also reveal what they expect for the summer of 2024, considering the trends in the vacation area of Romanians.
How will the Romanian coastline look in 2024, compared to 2023
According to the information provided by the National Association of Travel Agencies, 2023 was a relatively successful year for the Romanian coast, with significant increases compared to 2022.
Even if many Romanians book their holidays abroad, in countries such as Greece, Turkey or even Bulgaria, there are also many people who still prefer the beaches in Romania.
This can also be seen from the average value of a reservation, which in 2023 was 2,500 lei, up 5% compared to the previous year. However, the average length of stay decreased from 4.9 to 4.7 nights, the National Association of Travel Agencies also notes.
At the same time, 26% of the tourists who spent their holidays in the resorts in Romania chose to pay using holiday vouchers.
“The Romanian coastline manages to attract tourists even now, when holidays abroad are quite within reach. There are many packages for countries like Greece, Turkey or Bulgaria that are quite affordable if purchased in advance. From the statistics we have, we note that, most of the time, families choose to spend their holidays on the Romanian coast. At the same time, we observe an increase when it comes to people in the 45-49 age category. Young people, generally students or high school students, choose to go to the Romanian coast, as for them a holiday in the country is much more accessible than one abroad“, stated Andrei Munteanu, tourism advisor.
Tourism specialists are of the opinion that the year 2024 will be better than the previous year and that the investments made on the Romanian coast will speak for themselves more and more, from one year to the next.
“The Covid-19 period caused the numbers to drop dramatically, but we are on an upward trend. We are talking about increases from one year to the next, and we expect this trend to continue in 2024. From what I understand, seaside rates will be lower this year, so we are talking about slightly more affordable holidays. The beaches have been modified, they have been widened, and this attracts tourists. Even though we don't have the finest sand right now, things will change over time“, said the tourism adviser.
Which are the most visited resorts on the Romanian coast
According to the statistics provided by the Eximtur company, Romanians have certain preferences when it comes to the resorts on the Romanian coast. Thus, in 2024, the following were in order of sales: Mamaia, Eforie Nord, Olimp, Venus, Saturn, Cap Aurora, Jupiter, Neptun, Mangalia, Costinești, Eforie Sud, Techirghiol, Vama Veche. The resorts with the biggest increases are Eforie Nord, Olimp, Costinești and Eforie Sud.
“Mamaia will certainly remain in first place in 2024 as well, and this can be seen from the already existing bookings. It is a resort that perfectly combines relaxation and fun. At the same time, there are very good restaurants in this resort, and this part of gastronomy is quite important for Romanians. Even if the prices are a little higher than in other resorts, Mamaia will remain in the top of preferences. At the same time, Romanians also started looking for quieter resorts, such as Olimp, Venus or Saturn. Young people will continue to frequent Costinești and Vama Veche, for the fun specific to these locations“, added Andrei Munteanu.
