A teacher of a technical college in Suceava appeared before the judges for bribery, after he tried to offer money to a policeman who had stopped him for exceeding the legal speed, reports Ziarul de Iași.
The incident took place in the afternoon of December 17 last year. Traffic police from Pașcani stopped, on the radius of Cristești commune, a Suzuki car traveling from Suceava towards Bacău.
The car was traveling at 106 km/h in an area where the maximum permitted speed was 60 km/h.
The driver, Florin Cuzenco, was explained the offense committed, the amount of the fine provided by law and where he could pay it.
When the policeman returned to present the report, he observed the driver holding a sum of money.
“Can’t I give 450 to let me? So that no more… no more“, he allegedly told the policeman. The 450 lei represented a quarter of the value of the fine he was going to receive, writes Ziarul de Iasi.
The policeman refused the money, and the images captured by his video camera were later used as evidence in the criminal case opened against the teacher.
He received a one and a half year suspended sentence
In front of the investigators, Cuzenco explained that he was heading to Bacau airport to meet his son, who was studying abroad. He claimed he was “flustered, confused” and in a hurry, which is why he decided to offer the police officer money.
During the investigation, the teacher requested the conclusion of a plea agreement, a proposal accepted by the prosecutors and submitted to the court, Ziarul de Iași also notes.
Judges approved the deal, and the man received a suspended sentence of one year and six months in prison. The court also set a two-year term of supervision.
