2026 will be an epic year from a cinematic point of view. Homer’s “Odyssey” will be translated onto the big screens by director Christopher Nolan, in a production eagerly awaited by moviegoers all over the world. Also in the new year, “Dune” will come with a sequel, and a new screening of the classic “At the Crossroads” can be seen in cinemas.
The Odyssey, the most anticipated film of the year
Without a doubt, the most anticipated film in 2026 is The Odyssey. Cinema lovers have to wait until July 17 to see how Christopher Nolan translated Homer’s epic to the big screen. With a budget of 250 million euros, the film is the most expensive of the director’s entire career.
“I’m curious how it will work. It’s different from what Nolan has done before. I confess that I stayed at Interstellar and I’m curious. He belongs to the category of directors who wants to do all genres and has the necessary strength to do it. A little Homer wouldn’t hurt. If we don’t read the book, at least let’s see the movies. (..) I am convinced that it will be original, but without the horse jumping”, says film critic Irina-Margareta Nistor.
The film stars Matt Damon (Odysseus), Anne Hathaway (Penelope), Zendaya (Athena), Tom Holland (Telemachus), Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron (Circe) and Robert Pattinson (Antinous).
“He is good at castings. And all the actors really want to work with Nolan.” says Irina-Margareta Nistor.
Dune: Part Three, released at the end of the year
The third part of another grandiose production, Dune, will not appear until December 18. Robert Pattinson will have a role here as well. Denis Villeneuve has already stated that this is the last Dune film he will make, but that he leaves the door open for another director to take over the franchise.
“At the Crossroads” again on the big screens
Those who love classic novels will be able to enjoy a new film adaptation of the novel published in 1847 by Emily Brontë. Jacob Elordi (who made waves this year in Frankenstein) will give life to Heathcliff, and we will find Margot Robbie in the role of Catherine Earnshaw. The film is directed by Emmerald Fennel, who also made Saltburn.
“I think they had a year when they said <
The Devil Wears Prada is back
Instead, Irina-Margareta Nistor is eagerly awaiting the second part of The devil wears Prada.
,,After 20 years, like at Dumas, we will have The Devil Wears Prada 2, which will probably premiere at the Cannes Film Festival”.
In addition to Anne Hathaway and Merryl Streep, in the film we will also see Sydney Sweeney, the actress from euphoria, which is now on everyone’s lips in Hollywood.
The Drama, the most anticipated romantic comedy
And if two films with Robert Pattinson weren’t enough, this one will also headline the The Dramaa romantic comedy in which he will star alongside Zendaya. The film will be released in early April.
Successful franchises come with new movies
Also in 2026 we will see a new film from the “Hunger Games” franchise. Sunrise on the day of the draw will premiere in November.
A little earlier, in July, Spider-Man fans will enjoy a new movie, which will see Tom Holland again in the role of the famous superhero. Spider-Man: A brand new day is the title of the film. And in the Avengers franchise, a new movie will be released. Avengers: Doomsday will premiere in December.
Michael, the movie about the life of Michael Jackson
2026 will also bring to the big screens the life of one of the biggest pop stars, Michael Jackson. The role of the singer is played by his grandson, Jaafar Jackson.
Work on the film began back in 2019, but was rewritten and reshot several times due to the controversies in Michael Jackson’s life and the allegations against him. Director Antoine Fuqua said in 2023 that the film will show “the good, the bad and the ugly” of the star “We’ll tell what happened, and the viewers will decide for themselves what they think of Michael,” he also said. The artist’s daughter, Paris Jackson, has announced that she will distance herself from the film because, she says, the story is not true to reality.
Beyond the controversies, the film could spectacularly propel the lead actor’s career, Irina-Margareta Nistor believes, as happened with Rami Malek after Bohemian Rhapsody:
“When there was the movie about Fredie Mercury, we know very well that the most excited were those from the family, who said that they practically saw him relive. Speaking of which, the actor from Bohemian Rhapsody he is now absolutely outstanding alongside Russel Crowe in Nurembergwhich I would be glad no one lost to understand how the bullet went past our ear (once again)”.
