Leo Saca, an international youth for the Republic of Moldova, won this week the UEFA Youth League trophy with the U19 team of FC Barcelona. In the final of the competition, disputed against the Turkish Trabzonspor formation, the Catalans were clear with the score of 4-1.
Although he could not evolve in the final because of an injury that took out the circuit until the end of the season, Leo Saca played a very important role during the Catalan team. The former student of the Zimbru Chisinau Football School played in four games in the group stage, marking twice against the teams Brest and Borussia Dortmund and offering a decisive pass.
The performance in the UEFA Youth League completes an exceptional season for Leo Saca, who previously won the Spanish Cup and Cup at youth level. Thus, the formation at which the 19 -year -old Moldovan defender has achieved a historical triple.
Born in the Republic of Moldova, in Ialoveni, Leo started football at Zimbru Chisinau, and at the age of 9 he moved to Spain to follow his dream, supported by his family. After evolving for two years for Espanyol, in the summer of 2020 he signed with FC Barcelona, and is currently evolving for the U19 band of the Catalan club, its evolutions being appreciated. Saca also had the opportunity to train with the first team of “Blaugrana”.
Internationally, Leo Saca debuted for the U21 national of Moldova in October 2023, in the preliminaries for Euro 2025. Since then, he has checked 7 appearances in the youth team and is considered one of the most promising Moldovan players.
It must be said that Leo Saca could have played for the youth national team, but the Romanian officials did not insist on convincing the young footballer.
He evolved in 4 matches at the national Under 15 of Romania in the spring of 2022. Subsequently, Leo Saca was summoned for the first time at the age of 16 at the Under 21 national of Moldova, for which he officially debuted in October 2023.
