The tragedy in Northern Macedonia, where they died alive during a concert dozens of young people, an old wound reopens us: Collective 2015. And we return to a question we have been living with for almost 10 years: when will the big centers in Romania be ready?
The project of the centers for great burns, resumed in 2022. Archive
In the autumn, 10 years have passed since the tragedy in the Collective, and from then until now in Romania, the construction of any center for treating the great burns has not been completed. In June 2023, the works on the construction of the Center in Timisoara began, which will be completed, the authorities hope, next summer.
In August 2023, the contract for the medical unit in Bucharest, within the Children’s Hospital “Grigore Alexandrescu” was signed, and in March last year the works for the Center in Târgu Mureș started.
But tragic events happen next, the fires were, as well as deaths, as well as people who lost days. What do the authorities say? The year we could enter the world. “In the summer of 2026 we hope to open the first big burning center, the one from Timisoara” He told “Adevărul” Prof. Dr. Dorel Săndesc, the manager of the County Hospital in Timișoara, where the Big Arși Center is built in a proportion of 60%, according to the information provided by the ministry.

How will the Big Bar Center look like from Timisoara
“It’s a soul project, because I put it on paper while I was in Ministry of Health, Between 2014-2016. Then we proposed to the World Bank to have a slightly different approach to the existing programs, namely not only to modernize an area for the great burns, but to create some structures that connect the existing ones and make them functional ”, explains the manager.
Through this new approach, in Timișoara, in Târgu Mureș and Bucharest new structures are built that will connect already existing buildings. “Three buildings within the Timișoara County Hospital will be connected by a new construction. It will have a large burning center, with six spots for large burns, six speakers for intermediate and post-critical burns and five beds for reconstructive microsurgery and surgery. However, beyond the structure for the great burns, burns patients will also benefit from other key structures of the hospital ”continued Dr. Săndesc.
The building will benefit from 58 beds for UPU-SMURD, an ATI section with 27 beds and an operating block with 25 rooms, related spaces (sterilization, pharmacy, administrative and logistics, technical spaces, etc.) and heliport. The hospital will have the basement regime + ground floor + 4 floors + technical floor + heliport, with the total area of 21,000 square meters. In addition to the construction of the new building, the investment also provides for the creation of a connection bird with the existing buildings of the hospital and the reorganization of the medical circuits of the sections.
All the specialties will work in the new building. “We will ensure them operation in a modern objective, to higher standards. Operator block exists, except that it will move there. UPU exists, but it will move there. Surgical ATI exists and will move there, but separately from the medical ATI ”.
Dr. Săndesc: “In the summer of next year we hope to open the gates”
The Big Center for Timișoara will operate starting next summer, according to estimates, although, initially, it should have opened this year. “We are very active beneficiaries, we are very involved. Even last week I had a new meeting with the World Bank, with the designer and the builder in which we discussed a series of new challenges ”, Dr. Săndesc continues.
“After the launch of the project, changes appeared, new things appeared. For example, the safety criteria have changed and we must adapt. I had, unfortunately, in the period Covid, those fires caused by excess oxygen in the salons. Therefore, it is necessary to have a system of monitoring, detection and alarm in case of increased oxygen concentration. And I insisted that this was done. We can not take any risk. It does not cost a little, the project adds extra costs, but I firmly supported the need for its existence and approved. “
The manager of the County Hospital in Timișoara, the one who will host the Big Arși Center confessed that there could still be small delays. “I’m not saying it will happen. We hope not. But it is possible, however, to have them. Always, in the case of a large, large project, there may be delays. Do not put yourself with the unforeseen. We must be mature and understand that achieving a complex goal can meet challenges. But, even so, our project moves, we work, we are active, we go ahead. “

TRAGELET Ordinance allows to supplement the number of doctors in newly founded hospitals
As for the doctors who will work effectively in this center, their number will be supplemented, but the efforts in this regard will not be very high. “We have a functional unit within the hospital, which ensures the treatment of these patients. We have trained doctors including abroad through training programs in expert centers. Of course, being a larger center, you will need an additional number of doctors but, for the beginning, we have a team that can start the activity at any time ”.
The Trenuleț Ordinance, if it remains in force until next summer, provides for the possibility of engaging in the newly founding hospital structures. “It would be absurd to have a new hospital, but we cannot hire doctors that work actually there. We cannot develop society by blocking the human resource, which is the most important ”, Dr. Săndesc confessed to us.
The Ministry of Health announces the start of the procedures for the acquisition of medical equipment
The Ministry of Health transmits that, at the moment, the Big Bar Center within the County Hospital in Timisoara is made in a proportion of 60%. This, while the other two centers, from Bucharest and Târgu Mureș, are raised only 20%. “The project for these centers, started in 2018, was blocked, without any progress, at the end of 2021. Following the negotiations carried out by the Ministry of Health with the World Bank, the project was resumed in 2022 and extended until 2026. 2026.
