AUR has a meeting of the Party’s Political Council from 7:00 p.m., to nominate the party’s candidate for the elections in the Capital.

“Several options have been considered and a decision is expected to be made tonight. There are several options. You will find out tonight,” stated the first vice-president Marius Lulea in a press conference.

The leaders of the formation were also questioned regarding the call launched by Călin Georgescu regarding the boycott of the partial elections in Bucharest.

“We all understand the frustration and mistrust that Mr. Georgescu has acquired in relation to the way the state institutions, the so-called system, organize elections. When you are disqualified twice from the presidential race without a legal reason, surely you have a reason for mistrust and it is normal to express this feeling.

But we are a political party, which has a duty to represent those who believe in conservative values. Then we cannot abdicate this duty. (…) We must represent our electorate. And then we have no way not to participate in the elections, in fact we urge the citizens of Bucharest who have the right to vote, to go, vote, express their option, because that means participating in democracy and we commit ourselves in these elections, as in all others, to represent those who are dissatisfied with the performance of the parties in the governing coalition”. stated Petrișor Peiu, the leader of the AUR senators.

The boycott requested by Călin Georgescu

The party led by George Simion is expected to announce its candidate for Bucharest City Hall since Anca Alexandrescu stated that she will run as an independent in the elections for the Capital City Hall.

The latest polls put Anca Alexandrescu in 4th place, after the candidates of the governing coalition. According to the survey carried out by Novel Research, the candidate Ciprian Ciucu would get 26.4% of the votes, followed by Daniel Băluță with 24.5%. In third place is Cătălin Drula (USR) with 18.7%, and Anca Alexandrescu would be voted for by 15% of Bucharest residents who expressed an option.

According to Ziarul Financiar, the Novel Research company was founded in 2007 and is owned by two Romanians, Marian Marcu and Lacrămioara Bîrlică.
