Romania signed the contract for the purchase of 18 F-16 aircraft, at the symbolic price of one euro. What will they be used for?

The Minister of Defense, Ionuţ Moşteanu, announced on Monday that the contract for the purchase of 18 F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft and related equipment from the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was signed. The aircraft will be used only for training and instruction.

According to him, the 18 aircraft will be used exclusively for training and instruction, part of the seats in the program being dedicated to the training of Ukrainian pilots, News writes.

Moşteanu mentioned that the purchase is made at a symbolic price of 1 euro.

“It is a smart investment in preparation, cooperation and the future. This project reflects the trust of our Dutch partners and the recognition of the professionalism of the Romanian Air Force. I thank all those involved – the technical teams, procurement experts and Dutch partners – for the seriousness and pace with which they brought this process to a successful conclusion”. the Minister of Defense also sent.

He announces that “Romania continues to invest in defense, in solid partnerships and in well-trained people”.

According to the minister, “F-16 means safety, cooperation and a step closer to the next stage: the integration of F-35 aircraft into the equipment of the Romanian Air Force”.

The F-16 aircraft, located in Fetești, will become the property of the Romanian state, being specially intended for the training of pilots at the F-16 Training Center, the Romanian side having the obligation to provide a number of training places for pilots from NATO and partner countries.
