The former president of Romania, Traian Băsescu, accused President Nicușor Dan of delaying the appointment of a new candidate for the position of prime minister and said of the head of state that he abandoned his role as president.
Former president Traian Băsescu said in a telephone intervention to Digi24 that Nicușor Dan is largely responsible for the political crisis in which Romania is.
Băsescu reproaches the head of state that he had to make a new nomination for the position of president by now, even with the risk that it would not pass the Parliament.
“Why didn’t the president choose? Why is he delaying the appointment of a new candidate? I have no explanation. The Sigfried Muresan option would have been a more convenient option. Even if he had fallen. This is how we stand with things stuck. It is his competence to appoint a prime minister. It is a cavalcade of violations of the Constitution and the president’s responsibility is huge. In my opinion, he violates the Constitution and the president, and the parties and the Bolojan Government”, said Traian Bășescu.
The former head of state suggests that the president must also consider early elections and force the appointment of a third prime minister.
“No Dan has abandoned his role as president. The nominee must find the majority, not him. In which constitution does it say that the parties must take care of nominating a candidate who has 51%?”, Băsescu also said.
