Romania’s national football team is looking for a place in the play-off final for this summer’s World Cup. He will have to go through Turkey on the way to Istanbul.
At the conference preceding the duel, the selector Mircea Lucescu (80 years old) said how grateful he is to Turkish football, after his experiences at Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and the Semiluna national team.
“It gives me great pleasure to return to the Turkish stadiums. They are beautiful and ready for performance. I was pleased when I heard that he was playing in Beşiktaş, I wanted to come back as a coach here. I love Turkey very much, it has brought me many satisfactions, both professional and life. I would have liked Turkey and Romania to be together at the World Championship. Better team to move on“.
“Il Luce” did not want to irritate his opponents: “I respect the Turkish team, I have great words about Montella as well“.
But he drew their attention to the fact that they will have a tough life in tomorrow’s game: “I’ve had some bad luck with injuries, but I believe in my players and their talent. Regardless of who plays, our players have the value to be able to dominate their direct opponents.
It is a very important game, we will do everything possible to deserve this qualification. (…) I’m here to win this match“.
If they lose against Turkey, Mircea Lucescu will leave the helm of the national team, and Gică Hagi (61 years old) will take his place.
