The leader of the USR, Dominic Fritz, conveyed on Tuesday, April 21, the fact that the USR and the PNL coordinate their actions and support Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan for the continuation of the reforms.
“We had a very productive meeting between two teams of PNL and USR representatives. We agreed that, in the coming days, we will coordinate very closely. We reiterated the USR party’s position that we support Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and a reform-oriented government that has started to clean up and move things in the right direction.” conveyed the USR leader.
Fritz adds that if the PSD “decides to vote a motion alongside the AUR, the USR will no longer be available to negotiate the restoration of other unhealthy majorities.”
“I mentioned that, together, USR and PNL won more parliamentary votes than PSD, so PSD’s dream of deciding the fate of this country alone is an illusion.
Precisely because we are aligned these days, if the two parties remain aligned in this conflict, we can reach a reform in which we can continue to deliver results for Romania. It is absolutely necessary to continue with PNRR, SAFE and other reforms.”
Later, Ilie Bolojan stated that, during the meeting with USR representatives, they were discussed “the practicalities of running a government in such a government crisis”.
“We discussed the practical aspects of running a government in such a government crisis.
Given that the PSD ministers will retire from the Government, we have agreed that the ministers who are the holders of the portfolios that will remain occupied will take over the responsibility of the ministries that are vacant.
Thus, we ensure, on the one hand, the normal functioning of the Government and promote all projects related to the absorption of European funds to complete works on highways, schools and hospitals, and also to promote draft government decisions or laws related to maintaining the budget balances that our country must ensure, the continuation of reforms and the improvement of citizens’ lives in the coming period, so that these turbulences generated by the Social Democratic Party to affect the citizens of Romania as little as possible”.
The Prime Minister announces that on Wednesday, April 22, they have agreed to carry out consultations with the other two forces in the governing coalition: the UDMR group and the minority group, in parallel with the consultations that the President of Romania initiated with the parties in the coalition.
The PSD members’ consultation, entitled “The moment of truth”, ended with a crushing vote: 97.7% of the 5,000 delegates decided to withdraw political support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
“The mandate we received from you, we, is as clear as possible. When 97.7% of your colleagues tell you that this is the mandate, that Ilie Bolojan must go home, there is no room for anything else. I and Claudiu and the vice-presidents and all the party leadership understood this”. said Sorin Gindeanu, PSD president, after the vote.
Later, following the extended meeting of the National Political Bureau of the National Liberal Party, Ilie Bolojan declared that the formation he leads mandated the party leadership and the prime minister to ensure governmental stability in the context of the current political crisis and to take the necessary steps to maintain a functional majority in Parliament.
