Former Interior Minister Carmen Dan accused, on Friday, the “underground state” of having “instrumented” the criminal case against her half-sister in order to prevent her from running for the presidency.

“I do not intend to run for the Presidency of Romania, I did not announce this intention, I did not imply in any context that I would consider this candidacy. In the meetings I had recently with important people, I did not discuss this. My statements public recently have referred to the political disappointments experienced over time, the major disappointment being the Dragnea case, a disappointment that clearly underlines the fact that in Romanian politics the fellow traveler, the ally, the man you believed in, believe in and support can prove whenever he is a traitor, a liar and an agent of the underground state”the former interior minister wrote on his Facebook page.
She spoke about the criminal case against her half-sister and alleged that it was fabricated specifically to prevent her from running.
“The criminal case involving my half-sister leads me to believe that someone from the underground state is sending me a message: «Madam Minister, don’t even think about running!»
I see and hear in the media, including on TV, that this file has been orchestrated for a long time «without giving it any importance» and that it is being promoted more and more aggressively by some bodies, updated, reheated, right now during the period of submission of candidacies for the Presidency”Carmen Dan also wrote.
“In conclusion, for those in the know and for the representatives of the underground state, I have the following message: although I did not have and do not have a special relationship with my half-sister, (a fact that I am sure you know by the way), from this moment on, I , my people, my lawyers, we will support her in the legal proceedings”she concluded.
Why is the former minister’s sister accused?
On April 25, 2024, police officers from the 16th Police Department were alerted by a person, regarding the fact that he had been deceived by a woman, regarding the purchase of a home, paying 8,000 euros, the amount that represented the advance for the respective apartment., according to Știripesurse.ro.
On August 8, police officers from the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest – Police Section 16 implemented two home search warrants and two arrest warrants, in the Municipality of Bucharest and in the Municipality of Brașov. Following the searches, Simona Cristina Stan, the former minister’s sister, and a former lawyer, Irina Teodorescu, accused of defrauding the businesswoman Anastasia Soare, were detained.
Later, after the hearings, Carmen Dan’s sister was released and will be investigated in freedom, and the former lawyer received judicial review.
