The Romanian athletes Constantin Popovici, already designated the athlete of the year 2023 by World Aquatics for high diving, and Cătălin Preda were also nominated by European Aquatics for the title of the best European athlete of the past year, informs the Federation Romanian Swimming and Modern Pentathlon.

Last year, Popovici won gold at the World Cup and at the World Championships in Fukuoka, while Preda won silver at the World Championships in Japan.
The Frenchman Gary Hunt, the British Aiden Hislop and the Ukrainian Oleksei Prigorov are also on the list of nominees.

Constantin Popovici, 35 years old, was designated by World Aquatics as the best athlete of the year 2023 in high jumps during a celebration at this year's World Swimming Championships in Doha. He also won the 2023 Red Bull Cliff Diving world circuit, the final of which was held in Auckland in January.
